Welcome ...
It gives me great pleasure to present the August/September Issue of Horse Shows Magazine and to see that horse shows across Australia are back in full swing and from all reports across the country, most shows have had wonderful support and huge entries. This is testimonial - without horse shows, the industry suffers hugely, so let’s hope that we never have to endure the devastation EI brought upon us.
Horse Shows formally welcomes Peter Hill, Elizabeth Howard and Belinda Zaiter who have joined the Horse Shows team (read more about their profile on page 14). Peter is from the North Island, New Zealand and will be contributing to the magazine with his photography commencing next issue featuring the Royal New Zealand Show. Elizabeth Howard will be writing articles on showing tips, fashion in the ring, presentation plus much more regarding the world of showing and Belinda Zaiter has joined the photography team and we look forward to their valued contribution.
This issue features the 11th NZ North Island All Breeds In Hand Horse Show and the Welsh Foal Show, thanks to Kinder Ward and Hayley Kinley for providing coverage of these events. In Australia, Queensland was finally up and running with the Qld Arabian Challenge Show and what a huge success, Tracey Bavinton was back in the ring capturing the moment and also covered the Victoria Petstock Foal Show. In South Australia, Andrew Graham was busy covering the Youngstock and Foal Shows and Jenny Barnes covering the show jumping arena. Andrew and his lovely wife took the journey across to the Northern Territory to cover the Horse of the Year Show. In New South Wales, Alicia Birch attended the Open Warmblood Gala Show and the Show Horse Council's Hack & Riding Spectacular, which was run very similar to the Grand National. Even though the show was held at the end of May, entries far exceeded all expectations - congratulations to the committee.
The Show Hunter has created a lot of interest in Australia and Samantha Watson has written a basic guide to show hunt follower's attire on the general turnout for the Show Hunter ring. Stephanie Fitt from the UK reports on the Royal Windsor Horse Show and what a truly spectacular show. Kerri Hill-Grisham USA, recently attended The Arabian Breeders World Cup in Las Vegas and has given an in depth report of the show and the World Cup Scoring System which will be adopted at the 2008 NSW Arabian National Stud Horse Show, a first for an Australian Show. Thanks also to Diana Cantey, a freelance photographer in the USA for providing spectacular images of this exciting show. Australian Alan Preston, a National Panel Judge for the Arabian Horse Society of Australia was invited to be one of the six international judges, an honor indeed and was the first Australian to judge at this very prestigious event. Read more about Alan's time judging on page 69. Something a little different, Justin Holland, a 40 year old Australian has pursued his interests in Jousting and headed off to Europe to compete in the European Jousting Tour and we wish him all the best.
This issue features 'Stallions At Stud' and thank you to all the advertisers, contributing writers and photographers who have supported Horse Shows this issue. Horse Shows will continue to provide as much coverage from horse shows across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the USA and it’s great to see what is happening in each state and country.
Regards Lori Howell
